Bharat Ratna for Pandit Bhimsen Joshi.

Renowned Hindustani classical vocalist Pandit Bhimsen Joshi was presented with country’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna, at a ceremony held at his residence. He is the second vocalist to get the highest civilian award after Subbulakshmi in 1998.

The award was announced after a gap of seven years. Joshi is the sixth person from the field of art and culture to get the Bharat Ratna award after Satyajit Ray, M S Subbulakshmi, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Lata Mangeshkar and Ustad Bismillah Khan.

Wah Ustaad!!!

Ustaad Zakir Hussain was recently felicitated with his second Grammy for Global Drum Project in the Contemporary World Music Album category. He had received the first-ever Grammy for Best World Music Album in 1991 for Planet Drum.

Co-incidently, this was also a collaboration with Hart. He is now the second Indian after Pandit Ravi Shankar to have received the Grammy twice.

The album is a collaboration between Zakir, drummer Mickey Hart, Nigerian percussionist Sikiru Adepoju and Puerto Rican jazz percussionist Giovanni Hidalgo.

Its Slumdog Again…

After winning the Golden Globe, the Slumdog Millionaire, directed by Danny Boyle bagged seven awards at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) ceremony which took place in London. The BAFTA awards ceremony was held at the Royal Opera House in London. Music maestro AR Rahman bagged an award for Best Music. Besides music, the film, also won the award for Best Film, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Sound, Best Cinematography and Best Editing. Slumdog Millionaire’s,cast comprising,Anil Kapoor, Dev Patel, Freido Pinto, along with Rahman and Boyle were at the show.

Now all eyes are on the film as the Oscars approach towards the end of this month.
